Hyosung doubles in stature

28 Jun 2007

Author: Hyosung Australia

It's official: Hyosung was the fastest growing motorcycle marque in Australia last year, recording a massive 103.7 per cent increase in sales compared to 2005.

With 2196 units retailed in 2006, Hyosung - which came under the ownership of the Melbourne-based PS Importers on April 1 last year - is now the eighth biggest seller of on-road motorcycles in Australia.

Hyosung's astonishing result came on the strength of an outstanding year for the GT250R, which is now the biggest selling quarter-litre road bike in Australia. A total of 878 GT250Rs were sold in 2006 - a 354.9 per cent increase on 2005. The GT250R was also the seventh biggest seller in the entire road bike market.

The GV250 Aquila cruiser also performed with distinction in the 250cc category (359 units), while the 650cc family ñ the GT650R, GT650, GT650S Tourer and GV650 Aquila kept sales on the boil.

"This is a fantastic result for Hyosung," said PS Importersí Marketing Manager, Mark Fattore. "We knew that we were onto a good thing with Hyosung from the start, but the response from the market place has simply been overwhelming."

"The introduction of the black-framed 250s in the second half of 2006 gave us some added impetus, and we'll be looking to continue in the same vein in 2007."

The Australian on-road market finished with 52,944 sales in 2006, while the total sell - including off-road machinery and ATVs - was a gargantuan 119,210 - an increase of 16.6 per cent.

The sales figures are collated by research group ERG International for the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
